Slide Shows

Another free web resource is slide.com where teachers or students can make slideshows of pictures that they have either taken themselves or compiled from the internet. A teacher could make a slideshow including all of their students at the beginning of the year with their names underneath their picture so that not only the teacher becomes quickly familiar but the students get to know each other as well. The slideshow could be played as students come in from class. They would like seeing themselves and their friends on the projector. Educators could also create a slideshow that is related to the material they are teaching. Various pieces of art can be put up to expose students to different styles and artists. Pictures of our country's politicians could be used in one to help students become familiar with the structure of our government. Pictures from science projects and field trips could also be used. Students could create their own slideshows to share the knowledge they have learned of a subject, examples being the Civil Rights Movement or pictures (and names) of the states and their capitals. The website is very easy to use and it took me less than 5 minutes to put together a slide with music, a border and pictures with captions. I think this could be an easy tool for students and teachers to take advantage of in the classroom.
